Carbon Monoxide Safety

Carbon Monoxide Safety

Making sure our homes are free from any potential dangers is one of the most critical things we do as homeowners. However, even after all of our efforts there can still be gaps. Many homeowners don’t even notice these gaps.

Odorless and colourless, carbon monoxide is well known in-name, but there is a lot that homeowners don’t realize about it. For instance, there are a few common household appliances that emit carbon monoxide, and when they aren’t properly vented or maintained, they can build up inside your home.

Keep your home comfortable and carbon monoxide free with these tips.

  1. Never burn charcoal inside your home or garage, and make sure to keep burning wood and charcoal away from vehicles and open doors or windows.
  2. Other than a furnace, never use any gas appliance (oven, stove, clothes dryer, etc.) to heat your home.
  3. Install carbon monoxide detectors near every sleeping area inside your home.
  4. Don't leave your car running in the garage, even if the garage door is open.
  5. Get a tune-up from the experts at Peel to ensure your furnace runs safely and reliably during the peak heating season.
